Present Perfect vs Past Simple



We use the Present Perfect for an action that is important in the present but began in the past.

· It is frequently used with the words ever, never, just, for, and since.

E.g.: She hasn't seen him for ages.

Present Perfect

· We use the Past Simple to show an action which finished in the past. Sometimes a time word will help us to place the past.

Eg.: I went to the cinema last week.

A) Complete the sentences with the verbs in brackets in the Present Perfect or in the Past Simple.

They ____________ (just/ finish) the game.
_________________ (you / ever / play) beach volleyball?
Mary ____________ (not go) to the match last Saturday.
I'd like to see sumo wrestling but I ____________ ( never / be) interested in sports.
They ____________ (just / phone ) me: their car ____________ ( break down) on the way to the stadium.
Of course I can ride a bike although I ____________ (not ride) one for years.
____________ ( Mark / finished) his project work before the game?
____________ (football players / score) a goal in the last ten minutes?
